St. Peter Catholic Church in Newberg was first established as a mission in 1895. In those early years, a handful of Catholics worshiped in a railroad car “chapel”.

Our first “real” church was a small stone structure built in 1908. By the 1950’s a larger worship space was needed. In 1956, an unused school building was purchased. Two classrooms were used for worship until 1961 when a church was built next to the school. In the 1990’s, due to continued growth in the Newberg-Dundee communities, the parish purchased eight acres of land on Main Street in Newberg.

We began the process of building a new church on the Main Street property more than 20 years ago. Sufficient funds were initially raised to build classrooms and a social hall with the understanding that the church sanctuary would be built when funds were available. We currently worship in the Social Hall.

Due to space limitations, parishioners often experience Mass in two separate rooms—as we did in the 1950’s. Newberg is growing. So, also, is our St. Peter congregation. Even now, with four Masses every weekend, there are several times a year when we are unable to worship together in the same room and our classrooms are overflowing with children and adults eager to learn more about their faith.

To date, parishioners have raised 80% of construction costs.  With your help we will reach our goal!  I hope you will consider joining me in this work!  Thank you!
